1960 How it Started

Launched in the early 1960's, former orchard land became the setting for Shadow Hills, a private 18-hole golf course.

In 1963 it was then sold to Bohemia Lumber Company who originally planned to develop the surrounding land for subdivisions. The State of Oregon, not surprisingly, ruled years later they would protect local farmland, making housing development impossible.

Over the next two decades Shadow Hills gained popularity as the newest golf club in the area. It was favored by small-business owners and rising young professionals alike.

Our relatively young course hosted the notable Oregon Amateur Championship. Where Mary Budke coined "Queen of the Greens" won the female division.

A proud honorary Shadow Hills member.

1984 Member Owned Club

Bohemia Lumber Company planned to increase the lease to Shadow Hills, such an increase subjected members to a rise in their dues. This inspired the idea of a member owned club protecting its members.

1986 Gene & Eugene

Gene Gustafson, club president and Eugene businessman, managed to raise $600,000 from membership pledges, a substantial downpayment to purchase the course from Bohemia. The era of a "member owned Shadow Hills" was born and our 300 forward thinking members purchased the course and modest clubhouse.

We thank Gene and attribute his efforts as the backbone of emotional, legal and financial support of our club.

Members contributed to a major renovation to the course, including new irrigation and redesign of several greens and tee boxes. Architect William Robinson created a facility worthy of becoming a 10-year stop on the PGA's Nationwide Tour.

The course continued to grow in reputation for its year-round playability, top rated practice facility and challenging design.

2012 Renovation

Shadow Hills underwent another extensive renovation that opened a new 24,000 sq. Ft clubhouse that transformed the club into what we know and love today.

These improvements culminated in Shadow Hills winning best "Facility of the Year" from the OGA in 2014.
